What is considered to be uniquely or traditionally American? As I spend my time in Ukraine I think of the traditional Ukrainian foods I want to try or their traditional dance and clothes. But then I think what does the United States have unique to itself. So far all I've come up with is our uniquely American flavor... ranch salad dressing. There really isn't anything else like it, and I can't say that I've seen anywhere outside the U.S. There is also American football and baseball, but they both seem to mimic other sports (rugby and cricket respectively).
Sure there are things like blue jeans and Coke, which originated in the U.S., but has since permeated throughout the world. If you have another things which may be considered traditionally American, I'd love to hear the suggestion.
Oh and by the way, Ranch was created on a dude ranch outside of Santa Barbara, California in case you were wondering.
Entitlement. Morbid obesity. Road rage.
ReplyDeleteBut as far as food culture goes, we just steal ideas from people with better ideas and then add bacon. Or fat. Or make it 15x bigger.
But ranch. Ranch is genius.
Um, root beer floats!!! Actually I think there are a lot of regional things if you think about the south, southwest, northeast, etc. I love that we also have fusion of cultures and foods. What would I do without sushi in my life?
ReplyDeleteI think it was you that I watched that one True Life with and there was that one really fat girl who carried around a bottle of ranch dressing in her purse. Classic.
